Why a European research network — and why now
No single country holds the data, the ethics framework, or the political will to close the gender gap in addiction care alone. A coordinated European network is the only path to evidence at scale.
The data gap is pan-European
Women represent 50% of the population but only 20% of specialised treatment recipients across all 27 EU member states. No single country has enough cases for statistically valid gender-stratified AI research.
EUDA 2025–2026Ethics requires multi-country legitimacy
A health-adjacent AI system operating across Europe needs ethical clearance from multiple national committees. A research network provides the institutional backbone to achieve this simultaneously.
EU AI Act · Art. 10Horizon Europe requires academic co-applicants
EU funding programmes for health AI require co-applicants from at least three member states. Building the network now is a precondition for any major funding application in 2026–2027.

Voluntary submission to national and university ethics committees across the EU. Seeking approval before any real-world deployment.

Partner institutions
We are inviting four types of institutional partner — each with a defined role in the scientific steering group and a clear path to co-authorship.
Universities & Research Institutes
Departments of psychology, public health, addiction medicine or AI ethics. You bring scientific rigour, IRB access and co-authorship infrastructure.
National Health Institutes
Reitox focal points and national addiction agencies. You bring epidemiological data, access to treatment populations and policy influence.
Ethics Committees & Regulators
National bioethics boards, data protection authorities and AI regulators. You provide the oversight framework that gives the network institutional legitimacy.
Treatment Centres & NGOs
Addiction treatment units, women-only services and civil society organisations. You bring proximity to the populations the research is designed to serve.
Countries & regions
Priority countries are selected based on treatment access gap, Reitox focal point activity and existing ethics infrastructure.
